BTS members Kim Namjoon (RM) and Kim Taehyung (V) completed their 18-month mandatory military service on Tuesday, leaving the base in style and sparking excitement about an imminent group comeback.
Wearing full army uniforms, the duo saluted dozens of waiting fans outside the 15th Infantry Division headquarters. RM then pulled out a saxophone and played the iconic Detective Conan theme, while V stood beside him, beaming and holding two large flower bouquets. The pair shared a brief hug before departing in separate black minivans.
RM and V enlisted together in December 2023, serving in the 15th Infantry Division Band and the II Corps Special Duty Team, respectively. Their playful farewell — and RM’s comment that they’d “see everyone on stage soon” — sent ARMY into a social-media frenzy, counting down to BTS’s full-group return once the remaining members finish service later this year.
“To all the ARMYs who have waited for us in the military, I want to say I am truly, truly grateful. Please wait just a little longer and we will return with a really cool performance,” V said in front of fans and media.
RM took to Instagram shortly after his discharge, sharing a few snaps that gave fans a glimpse into his day. The photos showcased him in his uniform, capturing different moods, as well as a shot of him in a car. He captioned, “2023.12.11 ~ 2025.6.10”, marking the dates of his enlistment and discharge. Meanwhile, V took to his Instagram story to share a picture of him and RM walking together, arms around each other, while donning their military uniforms.
