Acting on specific intelligence inputs, the 136th Battalion of the Border Security Force (BSF) launched a combing operation in the dense forest area of Kummemolu village, under Salaguda Panchayat in Balliguda, Kandhamal district.
During the operation, BSF personnel identified a suspected Naxal hideout and seized a cache of items believed to be used by Maoist insurgents.
The recovered materials include parts of a modified rifle, gelatin explosives, detonators, Maoist propaganda leaflets and banners, Epson printer ink cartridges, medicines, and various miscellaneous supplies.
BSF sources confirmed that the items point to continued Naxal presence in the region, underlining the importance of intelligence-driven surveillance.
This discovery adds another layer to the counter-insurgency narrative in Kandhamal, a district long affected by sporadic extremist activities.
The operation also reflects the effectiveness of coordinated intelligence and security efforts in Odisha’s vulnerable zones.
