Bhadrak district witnessed a major breakthrough in the fight against narcotics when the Excise Department’s mobile team seized 80 grams of brown sugar near Bant Chhak.
Officials estimated the value of the seized contraband at around Rs 8 lakh.
The team arrested one accused in connection with the case and began interrogation to trace the wider network behind the illegal trade. Authorities confirmed that a case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Excise officials stated that the operation was part of ongoing efforts to curb drug trafficking in Odisha. They emphasised that strict surveillance continues across the state to dismantle networks involved in narcotics smuggling.
Local sources reported that the accused was caught red-handed while attempting to move the contraband. Investigators are now probing whether more individuals are linked to the racket.
