Lucknow: A panchayat in Agra in Uttar Pradesh has asked two MPs and nine MLAs of the district to either issue a letter of support to the agitating farmers or face “social boycott”.
Nearly a week ago, the khap panchayats in Muzaffarnagar had sought social boycott of those who do not back the farmers’ agitation.
A Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) functionary has, meanwhile, said that the groups of farmers in all districts will now begin asking BJP MLAs and MPs to come clean about their stand regarding the farmers’ protest or face the music.
Observers said the BJP legislators are in a Catch 22 situation. Non-support  to farmers will cost them dearly as they will get drubbing in 2022 polls. They cannot defy the party line on this issue either, the observers maintained.
In the meantime, several BKU functionaries have expressed their concern over the legal notices being sent to farmers for ‘provoking’ people against the three agri laws.
