Mumbai: The city’s famous beach Juhu should be shut on the weekends to keep the dreaded coronavirus at bay, BJP MLA Ameet Satam has demanded.
His demand came amid the rising number of coronavirus cases in the city in the recent days. In a letter to the municipal commissioner Iqbal Chahal, Satam said that the beach should be kept shut from Friday to Sunday evening till the situation improves.
The Central team of the Union Health Ministry has warned the state is witnessing the second wave of COVID-19 and any laxity shown by district authorities in Maharashtra will be suicidal. The Health Ministry said the state is at the incipient stage of the second wave of coronavirus pandemic and expressed its displeasure that there is very limited active effort to track, test, isolate cases and quarantine contacts.
The team also found that the district administration is not even worried about the emerging situation in Mumbai. The public spaces have also been witnessing huge crowds over the weekends throwing social distancing norms to the winds.
