The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has called for strict action against opposition members following a series of disruptive incidents in the Odisha Assembly.
The BJP alleges that opposition members from the Congress and Biju Janata Dal (BJD) have shown disrespect towards the Female Speaker and engaged in unruly behavior.
During a session, Urban Development Minister Krushna Chandra Mahapatra was interrupted by senior Congress MLA Tara Bahinipati, who allegedly attempted to break the minister’s microphone and snatched his papers. This incident follows a previous episode where a poster was thrown at the Speaker, further escalating tensions in the Assembly.
BJP MLA Irasis Acharya condemned the opposition’s actions, stating, “An indecent scene was witnessed in the Assembly. The Speaker of the House is a woman, and the Congress is behaving indecently towards her. The people of Odisha are seeing this.”
Other BJP members, including Jalen Naik and Om Prakash, echoed these sentiments, highlighting the opposition’s continuous disruption of the House proceedings. They emphasized the need for action against those responsible for creating an unpleasant atmosphere in the Assembly.
BJP MLAs Upasana Mohapatra and Sanjali Murmu also voiced their concerns, condemning the opposition’s conduct and demanding the expulsion of members who displayed indecent behavior.
The BJP’s call for action underscores the importance of maintaining decorum and respect in the legislative assembly to ensure the effective representation of the people’s interests. The party has urged the opposition to apologize to the people of the state and take responsibility for their actions.
