BJP state spokesperson Anil Biswal has strongly refuted the allegations made by BJD leader Snehangini Chhuria regarding the BJP’s resounding victory in the Nuapada by-election, while launching a sharp critique against the opposition party. Biswal accused the BJD of insulting the mandate of Nuapada residents and undermining democracy itself.
He pointed out that after ruling for 24 years, the BJD’s third-place finish in the by-election clearly demonstrates the growing public resentment toward the party. “The BJD is now treading the same path as Rahul Gandhi,” Biswal remarked mockingly, noting that after defeats, Gandhi often blames vote rigging, EVM tampering, and the Election Commission of India (ECI). He warned that if the BJD continues down this route, it could meet the same fate as the Congress.
Biswal emphasised that the BJD’s popularity is declining day by day. Instead of engaging in self-introspection, the party is raising questions about constitutional institutions, which he described as detrimental to democracy. He attributed the BJP’s success in Nuapada to the state government’s people-centric schemes and the tireless efforts of party workers.
Rather than reflecting on its own 24-year governance and what it delivered for the people, the BJD is unfairly blaming the BJP and government machinery, Biswal alleged. “The people of Nuapada rejected this narrative,” he said. Highlighting key initiatives, he credited schemes like the Subhadra Yojana, which provides financial assistance to mothers, along with PM-KISAN benefits and an Rs 800 input subsidy for farmers, for resonating with voters and contributing to the BJP’s triumph.
Biswal further highlighted the BJD’s weaknesses, stating that after 24 years in power, the party couldn’t even find a local candidate and had to bring one from 150 kilometres away, underscoring its organisational decline.
