New Delhi: BJD Rajya Sabha MP Subhasish Khuntia has proposed in the Rajya Sabha for the establishment of a new Central University in Puri on Wednesday.
Khuntia pointed out that although there are 56 Central Universities in India, whereas Odisha is home to only one. This situation compels Odisha’s students seeking quality education and research to pursue higher education in other states. The financial constraints prevent many meritorious students from attending Central Universities outside of the state.
Odisha’s population includes 1.7 crore young people aged 14 to 34 years, which is 35% of the total population. A new Central University in Puri would address the aspirations of Odisha’s students for affordable higher education.
Given its geographical advantages, Puri is deemed the ideal location for this second Central University. Thus, Khuntia has urged the Minister of Higher Education to consider the prompt establishment of a Central University in Puri.
