The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), in coordination with the Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Department, Govt of Odisha, successfully organised the 2nd State-Level Meeting on Standardisation on May 14, 2025.

The meeting aimed to enhance cooperation between BIS and the state government to create a robust quality ecosystem in Odisha.

The meeting was chaired by Manoj Ahuja, IAS, Chief Secretary, Govt.. of Odisha, who emphasised the importance of raising awareness about Indian Standards among both government officials and the general public.

The event saw participation from several senior officials, including Hemant Sharma, Additional Chief Secretary (Industries, MSME Department) and Sanjay Kumar Singh, Principal Secretary (Works, FS&CW, Information & PR Department, Odisha). Representatives from BIS, FS&CW Department, various government departments, and industry associations also attended.

Discussions focused on the implementation of Indian Standards, ensuring quality assurance, and promoting standardization initiatives across industries and services in Odisha. Officials stressed the significance of collaborating with industries to drive better compliance and higher product quality.

The Odisha government, along with BIS, has committed to strengthening standardisation efforts and advancing consumer awareness regarding quality assurance measures. Moving forward, there will be structured training programs, awareness campaigns, and industry collaborations to ensure effective implementation of Indian Standards across various sectors.

This meeting marks a step forward in Odisha’s commitment to quality standards, reinforcing its role as a leader in standardisation and consumer welfare.
