The Janata Dal (United) [JD(U)], led by Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, has released its first list of 57 candidates for the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections 2025. The announcement follows intensive discussions on seat distribution within the party and among allies of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA).
The initial list includes prominent candidates such as Anant Singh for the Mokama constituency and contenders for four constituencies previously claimed by Chirag Paswan’s Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), reflecting JD(U)’s strategic positioning ahead of the elections.
Party leadership confirmed notable candidates for key constituencies, including:
-
Mahanar: Umesh Khushwaha, JD(U) state chief
-
Nalanda: Shravan Kumar, Minister for Rural Development
-
Bhore (SC): Sunil Kumar
-
Rajpur (SC): Santosh Kumar Nirala
The party aims to ensure representation across social groups in proportion to their population. JD(U) officials emphasized inclusivity, stating that candidates from EBC, OBC, and Muslim communities are adequately represented in the released list.
Bihar NDA Seat Distribution:
-
JD(U) and BJP: 101 seats each
-
Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas): 29 seats
-
Rashtriya Lok Morcha (RLM) and Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM): 6 seats each
JD(U) MP Sanjay Kumar Jha indicated that the second list of candidates will be announced shortly and confirmed that Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is set to launch the party’s poll campaign on Thursday.
Election Schedule:
-
Polling: November 6 and November 11, 2025
-
Counting of votes: November 14, 2025

The JD(U) move comes amid a competitive electoral landscape where rival parties, including BJP and Jan Suraaj, have already released their candidate lists. While NDA has finalized its seat-sharing, the opposition Mahagathbandhan is still negotiating its allocations.
