Acclaimed filmmaker Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri has officially renamed his upcoming film from The Delhi Files: The Bengal Chapter to The Bengal Files: Right to Life, responding to overwhelming public demand.
The film, which serves as the third instalment in Agnihotri’s Files trilogy, is set for a theatrical release on August 15, 2025, aligning with India’s Independence Day.
Produced by Abhishek Agarwal and Pallavi Joshi, The Bengal Files aims to uncover the violent communal episodes that shaped undivided Bengal in the 1940s, including Direct Action Day and the Noakhali riots. Agnihotri describes these events as a “Hindu genocide,” aiming to shed light on a historically overlooked chapter of India’s past.
The film boasts a stellar cast, featuring legendary actors Mithun Chakraborty, Anupam Kher, Pallavi Joshi, and Darshan Kumar. The teaser, released earlier this year, provided a haunting first glimpse of Mithun Chakraborty walking through an eerie corridor with a rugged appearance, a white beard, and reciting the Preamble to the Constitution with a burnt tongue.
Despite initial plans to shoot in Kolkata, security concerns prompted Agnihotri’s team to shift filming to Mumbai. The film, backed by I Am Buddha Productions and Abhishek Agarwal Arts, promises an intense and thought-provoking cinematic experience for audiences nationwide.
Agnihotri’s Files trilogy, which includes The Tashkent Files (2019) and The Kashmir Files (2022), has gained significant recognition for its investigative storytelling and deep historical narratives. With The Bengal Files: Right to Life, the director seeks to continue this tradition, bringing a compelling yet controversial chapter of Indian history to the big screen.
