In a significant boost to healthcare infrastructure, Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar is poised to address long-standing challenges and enhance patient care. A key decision was made during the Rogi Kalyan Samiti (RKS) meeting, chaired by Bhubaneswar MP Aparajita Sarangi, to expand the hospital’s ICU beds from 16 to 40, ensuring better access to critical care for thousands of daily patients from the city and surrounding areas.

The meeting focused on improving overall healthcare services at the facility. MP Sarangi engaged in detailed discussions with Health Minister Mukesh Mahaling, the Health Secretary, and Capital Hospital Director to expedite these enhancements.

Recognising the hospital’s role as a vital hub serving a large patient influx, the committee prioritised the ICU expansion to meet growing demands. Sarangi also coordinated via phone with the minister and secretary to outline a swift implementation plan for the bed increase.

Beyond ICU upgrades, the session addressed other critical needs. With postgraduate (PG) medical students pursuing courses at the hospital, the committee resolved to appoint necessary faculty members promptly to support academic and clinical requirements. Additionally, a landmark decision was taken to regularise the employment of approximately 150 Class IV staff members who have been working on a contractual basis for years. This move aims to stabilise the workforce and improve operational efficiency.

MP Sarangi emphasised her commitment to these initiatives, promising quick action on staff regularisation and faculty appointments. “Our goal is to ensure that every patient receives top-quality care without delays,” she stated during the meeting.

The RKS gathering included key stakeholders such as the Capital Hospital Director, Medical Superintendent, Bhubaneswar Central MLA Ananta Narayan Jena, Mayor Sulochana Das, RKS Management Committee member Bimal Kumar Raul, and senior officials from the Public Works Department and WATCO. The discussions underscored a collaborative approach to resolving persistent issues and elevating healthcare standards at the hospital.

This development comes as a relief to residents relying on Capital Hospital, which has faced capacity constraints amid rising patient numbers. With these decisions now in motion, the facility is expected to deliver more efficient and advanced medical services in the near future.
