In view of the annual census of estuarine crocodiles, the Bhitarkanika National Park will remain out of bounds for tourists and visitors from today.
The National Park will remain closed for the annual saltwater crocodile census from January 14 to January 22. This was informed by the Rajnagar Forest Officer Sudarshan Gopinath Yadav.
The crocodile census will be executed in four Forest Ranges of Rajnagar. For this, the National Park will remain closed for nine days.
A total of 22 teams comprising forest officials, wildlife researchers and locals will be engaged to count the crocodiles.
The forest officer further informed that for the first time in the outer canal of Bhitarkanika, the saltwater crocodile census will be done.
