Berhampur Circle Jail, a 162-year-old prison in Odisha, has achieved the ‘Eat Right Campus’ certification from the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI).
This remarkable milestone underscores the prison’s commitment to ensuring safe, healthy, and sustainable food practices for its inmates. With a three-star rating, this certification is valid for two years, from March 24, 2025, to March 23, 2027.
As part of FSSAI’s initiative to promote food safety and well-being in institutional settings, the certification process involved a rigorous audit evaluating the jail’s food preparation, hygiene, and compliance with nutrition standards. Berhampur Circle Jail has set a shining example of adherence to these standards, with 50 staff and inmates completing the Food Safety Training and Certification (FoSTaC) program.
This achievement highlights the broader impact of FSSAI’s ‘Eat Right India’ movement, as nearly 100 prisons and over 2,300 workplaces across India have been recognized as ‘Eat Right Campuses.’ Berhampur Circle Jail joins this national effort to foster a culture of well-being through access to safe and nutritious food.
