New Delhi: Batla House encounter convict Shahzad Ahmad died during treatment at Delhi’s All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) on Saturday, prison officials informed.
Shahzad was held of guilty causing death of Inspector M.C. Sharma and attempting to cause death of Head Constables Balwant Singh and Rajbir Singh by firing at them.
Inspector Mohan Chand Sharma was leading the police team during the Batla House encounter when he was shot and killed during the encounter.
He was also found guilty of assaulting police officers and obstructing them from doing their duty.
As per reports, Shahzad died due to prolonged illness at Delhi’s AIIMS. He was admitted to AIIMS in January 2023.
Shahzad was convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment in the Batla House encounter case of September 19, 2008.
