Bangladesh’s authorities have formally sought Interpol’s assistance to issue a red notice against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and 11 other individuals.
The move comes amid an ongoing investigation into allegations that the group conspired to overthrow the Muhammad Yunus-led interim government and incite civil unrest.
Officials from the Bangladesh Police Headquarters have submitted the request, signalling a heightened legal battle in the country’s political landscape. If Interpol proceeds with the notice, international law enforcement agencies may track and provisionally detain the accused individuals pending legal proceedings.
Assistant Inspector General (Media) Enamul Haque Sagor confirmed the request, stating that such applications are filed based on investigations and case proceedings. He emphasised that if the red notice is issued, Interpol will play a crucial role in identifying fugitives residing overseas.
The unfolding situation raises questions regarding Bangladesh’s political stability, law enforcement collaboration, and the impact on international diplomatic relations.
