In a stern move highlighting accountability within the force, Balasore Superintendent of Police (SP) Pratyush Diwakar has suspended three police personnel from the Balaramgadi Marine Police Station for negligence in duty.
The suspended officers include Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Nilakantha Prusty and two constables.
According to sources, the incident stemmed from the detention of an individual suspected of involvement in drug trafficking. The man was brought to the station and held in custody, where he was allegedly subjected to unnecessary harassment and torture. Despite a thorough search yielding no narcotic substances or evidence linking him to any illegal activity, the officers reportedly continued to mistreat him.
The victim, along with his family, lodged a formal complaint with the SP, detailing the ordeal and seeking justice. Following a detailed inquiry into the matter, the SP ordered the immediate suspension of the three involved personnel.
