Nandankanan Zoological Park has welcomed 11 newborn yellow anacondas, expanding its thriving anaconda family to 25 individuals.
According to zoo officials, seven anaconda hatchlings were born earlier on June 29, and the latest birth of 11 more marks a celebratory moment for the zoological park located in Bhubaneswar. This successful breeding showcases the zoo’s excellence in wildlife care and habitat management.
The yellow anaconda (Eunectes notaeus), native to South America, is known for its elusive nature and is rarely bred in captivity. Nandankanan is one of the few zoos in India to successfully house and now multiply this exotic species.
Wildlife experts hail this birth as a “remarkable conservation achievement” and emphasise that it strengthens the biodiversity prospects within Indian zoos.
Visitors and animal lovers can expect to catch glimpses of these adorable serpents in specially monitored enclosures soon, as the zoo prepares to showcase its newest stars.
