Dispur: The death toll due to flood in Assam reached 173 after 14 more deaths were reported in the past 24 hours.
According to reports, six people lost their lives in Cachar, followed by three in Nagaon and two in Barpeta, while Karimganj, Kokrajhar and Lakhimpur districts recorded one death each.
Meanwhile, over 29.70 lakh people are affected at present in Bajali, Baksa, Barpeta, Biswanath, Cachar, Chirang, Darrang, Dhemaji, Dhubri, Dibrugarh, Dima Hasao, Goalpara, Golaghat, Hailakandi, Hojai, Kamrup, Kamrup Metropolitan, Karbi Anglong West, Karimganj, Kokrajhar, Lakhimpur, Majuli, Morigaon, Nagaon, Nalbari, Sivasagar, Sonitpur, Tamulpur, Tinsukia and Udalguri districts.
On the other hand, a total of 2,450 villages are under water and more than 63,314 hectares of crop areas are inundated.
The worst affected is Cachar, where over 14.04 lakh people have been affected by the deluge, followed by Nagaon with more than 4.32 lakh people still suffering due to the crisis brought to their lives by the devastating floods.
