Dispur: The flood situation in Assam continues to be severe, impacting over 1.61 lakh people across 15 districts, with 26 fatalities reported due to the deluge.
According to reports from the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), one individual drowned in floodwaters in Hailakandi district on Tuesday.
The ASDMA flood reports indicate that this year’s floods have claimed 26 lives in the state so far. In Karimganj district, the situation has exacerbated, affecting more than 1.52 lakh people, including 41,711 children.
The flood has affected 225 villages spread across Nilambazar, RK Nagar, Karimganj, and Badarpur revenue circles in the Karimganj district. Currently, 22,464 flood-affected individuals are taking shelter in relief camps and distribution centres established by the district administration.
According to the ASDMA flood report, a total of 470 villages in 15 flood-hit districts, spanning 28 revenue circles, have been affected. Floodwaters have submerged approximately 1378.64 hectares of crop area in 11 districts. In addition to the human toll, 93,895 domestic animals across 15 districts have also been affected by the deluge.
