Assam Civil Service (ACS) officer Nupur Bora was arrested on Monday after a dramatic series of raids conducted by the Chief Minister’s Special Vigilance Cell.
Officials recovered ₹92 lakh in cash and gold jewellery worth nearly ₹1 crore from Bora’s Guwahati residence. A further ₹10 lakh in cash was found in her rented house in Barpeta district.
The operation, which followed months of surveillance, was part of a broader crackdown on corruption in Assam’s civil services.
Chief Minister Confirms Long-Term Probe
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed that Bora had been under watch for six months.
“She was being monitored for alleged involvement in contentious land transactions,” Sarma told reporters. “The investigation is still ongoing, and more revelations are expected.”
Who Is Nupur Bora?
Born on March 31, 1989, in Golaghat district, Bora joined the Assam Civil Service in 2019.

Allegations Of Illicit Wealth
Authorities allege that Bora accumulated disproportionate wealth during her government service.
The Special Vigilance Cell also raided the home of Lat Mandal Surajit Deka, a staff member at Barpeta Revenue Circle Office. Deka is accused of purchasing multiple plots of land with Bora’s assistance while she was posted as Circle Officer.
