New Delhi: A day after his convoy was allegedly fired upon, AIMIM chief and Lok Sabha MP Asaduddin Owaisi has been given Z category security cover by the government.
The ‘Z category’ is a security detail of 22 personnel, including four to six NSG commandos and police personnel.
It is provided by the Delhi Police or the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) or Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel along with one escort car.
AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi on Thursday said that he and others escaped unhurt after miscreants fired three to four rounds of bullets upon his vehicle near Chhajarsi toll plaza while he was heading to Delhi after an election-related event in Kithaur, Meerut.
No one was injured in the incident, Owaisi said, while urging the Election Commission (EC) to ensure an independent probe into the incident. Speaking to India Today, he alleged that there was a ‘mastermind’ behind the attack.
Earlier on Friday, Owaisi asserted that he has never sought security cover and he never would, because it is the government’s responsibility to protect his life.
