Seoul: BTS fans showered the group with love when they did not take home the award for best pop duo/group performance for “Dynamite” at the 2021 Grammys on Sunday (March 14).
Had the award gone to BTS, it would have been a historic first Grammy win for the K-pop superstars.
J Balvin, Dua Lipa, Bad Bunny & Tainy’s “Un Dia (One Day),” Justin Bieber featuring Quavo’s “Intentions” and Taylor Swift featuring Bon Iver’s “Exile” had also been nominated for the award that ultimately went to Gaga and Grande.
The BTS ARMY had the hashtags #LightItUpBTS and #BTSOurGreatestPrize trending on Twitter as the Grammy instead went to Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande’s “Rain on Me.” (Keep up with the full list of Grammy winners here.)
“Who said BTS lost grammys? It’s grammys who lost BTS,” said one fan.
K-pop sensation BTS’ fans got hashtag “scammys” trending on social media Sunday ahead of the 2021 Grammy Awards to express their outrage that RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jungkook lost the award.
This year was BTS’ second Grammy nomination, but the first for their music (the group was nominated for best recording package in 2019, an award presented for the visual look of an album.)
The Grammys have already been under fire this year for not nominating The Weeknd, whose 2020 album After Hours became the first since Drake’s Scorpion (2018) to spend four consecutive weeks at the top of the Billboard 200.
