Actor Aishwarya Rai Bachchan on Tuesday approached the Delhi High Court, seeking legal protection of her name, likeness, persona, and images from unauthorised use.
According to a LiveLaw report, Rai’s counsel submitted before the court instances of her images being misused without consent. The petition aims to restrain individuals and entities from exploiting her identity for commercial or other purposes without authorisation.
“Personality rights” safeguard a public figure’s control over the commercial use of their identity, including name, image, and likeness. Several Indian celebrities have taken legal action in recent years to prevent misuse of their persona in advertisements, merchandise, or online content.
The court is expected to hear the matter soon.
