Jerusalem: The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) asserted that they have severely degraded the capabilities of the Palestinian militant organization Hamas on Monday as airstrikes on the Gaza Strip persisted.
The IDF claimed it had attacked a building housing Hamas members and several of the militant group’s operational command centers, including a three-floor complex, sources reported.
A Hamas operational asset in a mosque in Jabalia city, a Hamas command center belonging to a senior Hamas naval forces operative named Mahmad Kashta, and a Hamas intelligence and supplementary asset are among the other targets, according to the IDF.
After Hamas launched an unprecedented surprise attack on southern Israel on Sunday, Israel declared war on the Islamist organization. Since then, the Jewish state has bombarded the besieged coastal enclave with aircraft.
In the meantime, thousands of people were hurt in the attacks, and hundreds are still missing.
In its most recent report, the UN Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) stated that the conflict has caused 123,000 Palestinians to flee their homes in Gaza, with around 74,000 turning to schools for safety as heavy shelling and airstrikes continue, including in civilian areas.
Notably, a UNRWA school in the Gaza Strip that houses displaced families was struck directly on Sunday. The more than 225 persons housed in the school were severely damaged. According to a statement released by the Agency late Sunday, there were no injuries among the displaced.
