Seoul: As soon as BTS oldest member Jin began his military service, the news about the service of the second ‘hyung’ Suga surfaced on the internet. While Jin started his active duty, it is being said that Suga will be exempted from the same because of his shoulder injury.
By law, Suga has to enlist by December 31, 2023. That is the year when he will turn 30 according to the international age.
Replying to the reports, BIGHIT MUSIC which manages BTS and its artists, said that it is difficult to confirm anything regarding SUGA’s enlistment at the moment. They further added that the company and the members, both hope BTS can promote as a full group in 2025. This follows up with what was previously said by the company regarding the whole group conveying in 2025 with their military services completed. However, this also means that the other members will soon go for their own military duty.
However, just because Suga had undergone the surgical procedure does not mean he will surely serve in public service. Military service in South Korea is compulsory for able-bodied citizens. All Korean men between the ages of 18 and 35 are required to serve. Other than active duty enlistment, military duty involves social work, research, full-time reserve enlistment and conscription, and industrial technical personnel. While it is not mandatory for women to enlist for military service, South Korea does allow them to enlist voluntarily.
