In remote parts of Koraput district, a lack of basic infrastructure forces residents to rely on primitive methods during medical emergencies, as seen recently in Ampaniguda village under Ramgiri panchayat of Boipariguda block.
According to reports, a 50-year-old woman of Ampaniguda suddenly fell ill after being afflicted with severe diarrhoea. Her family immediately contacted the emergency ambulance service to shift her to the hospital.
Although the ambulance arrived promptly, it could not reach the village due to the complete absence of a motorable road, getting stranded near Keraotal village.
With no other option available to save her life, family members and relatives were forced to help the ailing woman walk all the way to the ambulance.
Navigating through immense hardships, they crossed the Keraotal River on foot and walked nearly two kilometres along narrow footpaths cutting across agricultural fields before finally reaching the vehicle.
Villagers say such emergencies are common because ambulances cannot enter the village, especially worsening during monsoons. Frustrated residents have urged the administration to build a proper road and fix their commuting struggles.
