Persistent waterlogging has once again crippled life in Odisha’s capital, with residents of Bomikhal and Janpath bearing the brunt of incomplete drainage work.
Despite repeated assurances, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has failed to complete crucial drain cleaning and infrastructure upgrades. Heavy monsoon showers over the past three months have left roads submerged, forcing commuters and shopkeepers to struggle through ankle‑deep water.
At Janpath Road, stagnant water has slowed traffic and raised safety concerns, while Bomikhal residents complain of recurring flooding due to unfinished drainage channels. Locals allege that despite annual promises of pre‑monsoon cleaning, the same issues resurface every year, highlighting systemic negligence.
Citizens have begun questioning BMC’s preparedness and accountability, demanding long‑term solutions instead of temporary measures. Traders report losses as water enters shops, while daily commuters face delays and health risks from unhygienic conditions.
The recurring crisis underscores the urgent need for sustainable urban drainage planning and stronger civic infrastructure to prevent Bhubaneswar from drowning every monsoon.
