In a major push toward accessible quality learning, the Department of Higher Education, Government of Odisha, has released the first instalment of financial assistance under the flagship ‘Gyanodaya – Sikhya ru Samriddhi’ (KG to PG Free Education) scheme for the 2026–27 academic session.

Following the successful completion of Phase-1 Undergraduate (UG) admissions through the Student Academic Management System (SAMS), a total amount of Rs 9,56,02,762.40 has been transferred directly to eligible higher education institutions across the state.

This initial disbursement represents 10% of the allocated funds for this phase, ensuring institutions are equipped to support non-fee-paying eligible students without procedural delays.

According to the Higher Education Department, the second instalment of 15%—amounting to Rs 14,34,04,143.60—will be released shortly. The upcoming release will be executed upon the completion of standard verification and compliance checks by the respective colleges and universities.

The ‘Gyanodaya – Sikhya ru Samriddhi’ initiative is designed to remove financial barriers across all tiers of education, guaranteeing free education from kindergarten through postgraduate studies.

By streamlining fund flow via SAMS, the state government aims to reinforce institutional accountability while upholding its promise of inclusive, equitable higher education for every student in Odisha.
