Odisha has set a new record in paddy procurement registration, with 21,42,723 farmers completing the process for the ongoing Kharif season, Cooperation Minister Pradeep Bal Samanta announced on Monday.
The minister clarified that the registration window will not be extended further. Farmers can complete the process until 1 am Monday night, after which the deadline will close permanently.
“Last year, around 19.67 lakh farmers had registered. This year the figure has already crossed 21 lakh, making it a record. Our government is always working in the interest of farmers,” Samanta said, while dismissing opposition threats of agitation over the issue.
The government had earlier provided an additional seven days for registration to accommodate farmers. Alongside procurement, the minister highlighted a focus on fertiliser supply, with 24,400 tonnes currently in stock. Strict action, including suspension and licence cancellation, is being taken against negligent dealers.
Officials say the record registration reflects strong farmer participation and confidence in the procurement system, even as political debate continues over deadlines and accessibility.
