A fire broke out at the Nursing College Boys Hostel on the MKCG Medical College campus in Brahmapur on Friday, triggering panic among students.
The blaze reportedly started in the ground‑floor kitchen room due to a suspected LPG gas leak. Students noticed the smell of gas and alerted the fire brigade, which rushed to the spot and extinguished the flames before they could spread further.
Authorities confirmed that no students were harmed in the incident. The MKCG Fire Station’s swift response prevented what could have been a serious disaster at one of southern Odisha’s premier medical institutions.
However, concerns have been raised about the hostel’s fire safety infrastructure, which is said to be outdated and inadequate. This is not the first such incident at MKCG, where repeated fire accidents have drawn sharp reactions from the public and experts.
