A tragic incident occurred in Birikera village under the Brahmani Tarang police limits of Sundargarh district, where an elderly couple lost their lives after a wall of their mud house collapsed due to continuous rainfall.
The deceased have been identified as Denga Kispota and his wife, Mai Kispota. Police reached the spot, seized the bodies, and initiated an investigation into the cause of the accident. Preliminary reports suggest that incessant rain weakened the structure of their mud house, leading to the fatal collapse.
Sources said the couple had not received assistance under government housing schemes, raising questions about the implementation of welfare programs in remote areas. The SDPO visited the site and arranged for the victims to be taken to the government hospital in Raurkela, where doctors declared both dead.
Authorities have begun a detailed probe to determine the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
