The Congress protest over women’s safety issues turned violent on March 27, leading to the registration of three separate cases by the Commissionerate Police at the Capital Police Station on Friday.

The incidents unfolded at Lower PMG square, where clashes resulted in injuries to 15 police personnel and a TV journalist, all of whom are currently receiving medical attention at Capital Hospital.

The case involving burning a police vehicle was registered under section 327 BNS. The case related to the attack on police officials resulted in charges under sections 189 (2), 191 (2), 126 (2), 132, 121, 324 (4), 296, 351 (2), and 190 of the BNS, as well as section 96 of the Odisha Urban Police Act.

Police also filed charges against Congress workers who protested in front of the Assembly gate on March 26. This case included sections 189 (2), 221, 296, 132, and 190 of the BNS, along with section 96 of the Odisha Urban Police Act.

Meanwhile, Director-General of Police YB Khurania has promised strict action against those involved.

On the other hand, PCC President Bhakta Charan Das emphasized that the protest was intended to remain peaceful and blamed unidentified miscreants for inciting violence.
