Kalimela police seized 320 kilograms of ganja and arrested two accused during a patrol near Badiliguda village under Vejangi Wada panchayat, about 25 km from the Kalimela police station.
Acting on a tip-off, officers intercepted a white Mahindra pickup van (OD30 H 7898) and discovered the contraband inside.
The seized ganja was being transported from Ghatipapulur village and was allegedly intended for smuggling into Maharashtra, according to Kalimela IIC Prabhudatta Biswal. The contraband was weighed in the presence of Additional Tahsildar Rajeev Behera, and police also confiscated the pickup van and ₹1.1 lakh in cash.
The arrested accused are Ramkrishna Das (27), son of Subash Das of MV-72 village, and Bablu Dutta (29), son of Pradeep Dutta of MV-71 village. Both were produced in court. Police sources said further investigation is underway to trace others involved in the smuggling network.
A case has been registered under NDPS Act Sections 20(b)(ii)(C), 25, 27(a), and 29 (Case No. 170 dated 04/07/2026).
