In a major move toward modernising the state’s power transmission grid and making it more reliable and efficient, Odisha Power Transmission Corporation Limited (OPTCL) has taken another significant step.

Today, at the Kharavel Bhavan premises, Deputy Chief Minister and Minister of Agriculture & Farmers’ Empowerment and Energy, Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo, inaugurated OPTCL’s new Megger R30 Van-Mounted Cable Fault Locator and Testing System. Additional Chief Secretary of the Energy Department, Vishal Kumar Dev, and Chairman-cum-Managing Director of OPTCL, Bhaskar Jyoti Sarma, were present on the occasion.

Speaking at the launch, Deputy CM Singh Deo stated that the deployment of this advanced equipment will significantly reduce the time taken to locate and repair cable faults. Consequently, any disruption in the power supply can be restored rapidly, further enhancing the reliability, stability, and efficiency of the state’s power transmission system.

OPTCL acquired this world-class Megger R30 Cable Fault Location System at an investment of ₹9.8 crore to strengthen its underground power cable maintenance and fault-detection capabilities. It is a van-mounted system capable of detecting underground power cable faults quickly, accurately, and safely.

The system integrates advanced technologies such as Time Domain Reflectometry (TDR), Arc Reflection Method (ARM), Surge Pinpointing, and Sheath Fault Testing. It can accurately pinpoint faults in high-voltage underground cables in a short period, speeding up repair work.

The integration of the Megger R30 Van-Mounted Cable Fault Location and Testing System reflects OPTCL’s push toward adopting modern testing and diagnostic technologies to achieve technical excellence in power transmission. Through this, the state’s power transmission system will become safer, more reliable, and more efficient, ultimately helping deliver higher-quality power service to consumers.

This step highlights OPTCL’s ongoing effort to build a smart, stable, and future-ready power transmission infrastructure.
