In a move that underscores India’s commitment to self-reliance in defence manufacturing, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) has inked contracts totaling Rs 2,500 crore for the procurement of cutting-edge equipment for the Armed Forces.

The contracts, signed on March 27, 2025, in the presence of Defence Secretary Shri Rajesh Kumar Singh, include deals with Armoured Vehicle Nigam Limited for the Nag Missile System (NAMIS) Tracked anti-tank weapon platforms and agreements with Force Motors Ltd and Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd for approximately 5,000 modern light vehicles.

The NAMIS(Tr) weapon system, developed by the Defence Research and Development Laboratory (DRDL) of DRDO, represents a major advancement in anti-tank capability. With state-of-the-art fire-and-forget missiles and enhanced sighting technology, the ₹1,801.34 crore contract aims to bolster operational readiness and mechanised infantry capabilities.

The procurement of 5,000 light vehicles, designed to navigate diverse terrains and operational conditions with a payload capacity of 800 kg, is another step towards modernising the mobility infrastructure of the Armed Forces. These vehicles incorporate contemporary technology, ensuring reliable performance in challenging environments.

These developments are in line with India’s vision of ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat,’ fostering indigenisation and creating employment opportunities by encouraging the MSME sector for component manufacturing. This strategic leap also serves as a testament to India’s resolve to strengthen its defence infrastructure while supporting indigenous industries.0 Crore Defence Modernisation
