The nine‑day Rath Yatra 2026 concluded on Monday night with the Niladri Bije ritual, marking the ceremonial return of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, and Devi Subhadra to the Srimandir.
Officials confirmed the festival drew a record 4–5 million devotees, making it one of the largest turnouts in recent memory.
As part of tradition, Lord Jagannath symbolically appeased Goddess Mahalaxmi with a Rasagola offering before re‑entering the temple. Despite heavy rain, the rituals were conducted on schedule — the Charamala was tied at 7:55 pm, Lord Balabhadra’s Pahandi began at 9:20 pm, and Lord Jagannath entered the temple at 12:50 am.
Chief Administrator Arabinda Padhee of the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration praised the coordinated efforts of the Central Government, Odisha Government, temple servitors, and police for ensuring the peaceful completion of the festival.
Servitor Jagannath Swain Mohapatra described the 2026 Rath Yatra as the best‑organised festival in his lifetime, while noting that the steadily increasing number of devotees presents challenges for future management. He urged the government to plan with a 100‑year vision to accommodate the rising pilgrim influx.
