All Congress MLAs were suspended from the Odisha Assembly, sparking outrage among party leaders.
On Wednesday afternoon, under the leadership of PCC President Bhakta Charan Das, senior Congress leaders gathered at the Congress Bhavan to express their anger towards the state government.
Senior Congress leader Narasingha Mishra criticized the events in the Assembly as unconstitutional, alleging that the police unlawfully interfered and prevented former MLAs from entering the premises. Mishra accused the government of suppressing opposition voices and described the incident as a “murder of democracy.”
Former PCC President Prasad Harichandan likened the Assembly to the infamous “Kuru Sabha,” drawing parallels to the suspension of Congress MLAs. He emphasized the need to protect democracy and called for an end to authoritarian rule.
Senior leader Jayadev Jena condemned the suspension, describing it as deplorable. He vowed that Congress would intensify its protests to ensure justice for the people. Former Union Minister Srikant Jena also criticized the state government, stating that Congress would not tolerate atrocities against women and announced plans for a widespread protest.
The Congress party has planned a march from Ram Mandir Square to Lower PMG on Thursday morning, followed by a protest meeting. Leaders have called upon citizens to join the movement and stand against what they describe as an attack on democratic values.
