Salepur: In another development regarding the sensitive Mahanga double murder case, IIC Nihar Ranjan Mohanty finally deposed before Salepur Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) Court.
The court had issued a notice to Mahanga police station Inspector In-Charge (IIC) Nihar Ranjan Mohanty to show cause why disciplinary action should not be taken against him.
“Failing which the court will take a serious view that he is intentionally avoiding submission of those and has mentioned in its order to take coercive action against him as per provisions of the CrPC,” informed Praveen Kanungo, petitioner Ramakant Baral’s counsel.
Earlier, hearing the protest petition filed by Ramakant, son of deceased Kulamani Baral, the court had ordered a fresh investigation into the alleged involvement of Law Minister Pratap Jena in the double murder case.
It had directed Mahanga IIC to collect and preserve CDRs of the accused persons and file a reinvestigation status report by November 25.
When the case was heard on November 25 and Mahanga IIC sought more time, the court expressed displeasure and directed him to take immediate steps to collect and preserve CDRs of all accused persons and submit an updated case diary of the reinvestigation by November 29.
