In a decisive move to transform primary education across Odisha, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has instructed all District Collectors to complete land identification for the first phase of 2,200 Godabarish Mishra Adarsh Primary Schools by March 2027.

Chairing a high-level review meeting at Lok Seva Bhavan, the Chief Minister described the project as a flagship initiative aimed at delivering world-class primary education at the panchayat level. The ambitious programme seeks to fulfil the goals of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and the Right to Education Act, 2009.“Every gram panchayat in Odisha should have an Adarsh Primary School. This is not just about constructing buildings — it is about building the future of our children,” the Chief Minister said, stressing the need for urgency and coordinated action.

To ensure rapid progress, CM Majhi directed District Collectors to personally monitor the project every week and submit detailed reports to the School & Mass Education Department. He also announced that he would personally review the scheme once every month.

The state government has already earmarked more than ₹2,200 crore for the project in the current financial year. So far, foundation stones have been laid, and construction work has begun for 322 schools. The Chief Minister asked Collectors to immediately fast-track land identification for the remaining schools.

In a significant suggestion to speed up the process, the Chief Minister advised involving local MLAs in land identification. “Their participation will make the process smoother and faster,” he noted.

Highlighting the importance of the project, CM Majhi told the Collectors that the success of this initiative depends entirely on their active involvement and administrative efficiency. “Treat this as a top priority. Work with full commitment and ensure we meet our targets on time,” he said.

School & Mass Education Minister Nityananda Gond joined the meeting virtually. Senior officials including Chief Secretary Anu Garg, Development Commissioner D.K. Singh, School & Mass Education Secretary N. Tirumala, and OSEPA Director Ananya Das were also present. All District Collectors participated through video conferencing.

The Godabarish Mishra Adarsh Primary School project is being positioned as a game-changer for rural education in Odisha. Once completed, these modern schools are expected to provide quality infrastructure, better teaching standards, and holistic development opportunities to children in even the remotest areas of the state.

With a clear deadline, regular monitoring, and strong political will, Odisha is now moving at full speed to turn this vision into reality.
