Odisha fertiliser availability

In a major relief for Odisha’s farming community, the state government has confirmed that fertiliser availability across all districts remains strong and uninterrupted.

Under the direct guidance of Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo, the supply of Urea, DAP, SSP, MOP, and complex fertilisers is proceeding smoothly, with stocks comfortably exceeding the monthly allocation targets till the end of May 2026.

The government has adopted a zero-tolerance approach towards hoarding, black marketing, and diversion of agricultural urea for industrial use. Collectors and District Magistrates have been instructed to maintain strict vigilance, especially against misuse in plywood, cattle feed, resin, and diesel exhaust fluid industries. Special focus has been placed on border districts to prevent the illegal movement of fertilisers to neighbouring states.

To strengthen last-mile delivery, fertiliser manufacturers have been directed to supply 60% of their total stock to MARKFED for distribution through PACS and LAMPCS. Larger godowns under these societies have been designated as wholesale points, ensuring faster and more equitable access for farmers.

In view of the current unrest in the Middle East, the Chief Secretary personally held meetings with major fertiliser companies to secure uninterrupted supply lines. The Department of Agriculture has also intensified monitoring of unusual spikes in Urea and DAP sales during non-cropping periods.

Enforcement is in full swing. Block and district-level squads, along with Nigrani Samitis at Gram Panchayat, subdivision, and district levels, are actively conducting stock verification and checking misuse. Krishi Vigyan Kendra scientists are simultaneously educating farmers on balanced fertiliser use and promoting organic alternatives.

The landmark “Krushi Ratha” programme, launched on the auspicious occasion of Akshay Tritiya, is already spreading awareness about reducing dependence on chemical fertilisers and adopting sustainable organic farming methods.

Enforcement statistics reflect the seriousness of the drive:

  • Dealer point raids conducted: 3,574
  • Show cause notices issued: 1,284
  • Stop sale notices: 312
  • LoA suspended: 101
  • LoA cancelled: 21
  • Seizures made: 2
  • FIR lodged: 1

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi recently reviewed the situation with all Collectors and has also written to the Union Minister of Fertilisers and Chemicals requesting continued adequate supply to the state.

Farmers have been urged not to panic over fake news and rumours regarding price hikes. The government has assured that sufficient stocks are available and distribution is being closely monitored for transparency and fairness.
