Indian Railways is advancing the development of futuristic hyperloop technology. The Research Designs and Standards Organisation (RDSO), under the Ministry of Railways, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with IIT Madras.
The collaboration comes with a funding of ₹20.89 crore to establish a Centre of Excellence for hyperloop innovation.
The project aims to develop essential components like a sub-scale model of a hyperloop pod, a test track, and a vacuum tube facility at IIT Madras. Hyperloop is regarded as a cutting-edge transportation system that promises speed, energy efficiency, and sustainability, although global technical and safety standards are yet to be formalized.
The announcement was made in the Lok Sabha by Union Minister of Railways, Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, marking a significant move towards revolutionizing India’s transportation landscape.
