Over one lakh women have been excluded from receiving the second installment of Odisha’s flagship Subhadra Yojana due to discrepancies between their ration card details and declared income, Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida informed on Wednesday.
Government sources revealed that although these women received the first installment, they were later disqualified after income verification showed they exceeded the eligibility criteria. Many had voluntarily surrendered their ration cards as their financial status improved. Instances of vehicle purchases or higher-than-expected paddy sales at mandis also led to disqualification from the scheme.
Addressing the issue, the Deputy Chief Minister announced that a one-on-one survey would be launched post-March 31 to re-verify income details and ensure only eligible women benefit from the scheme. The survey aims to resolve documentation issues and prevent deserving beneficiaries from being left out.
The government has assured that genuinely eligible women excluded due to documentation errors will receive their pending second installment by Rakhi Purnima (Raksha Bandhan). Additionally, women turning 21 by March 31 will be eligible to apply for the Subhadra Yojana benefits.
The Subhadra Yojana remains a significant women empowerment initiative, offering financial support. The government’s corrective steps aim to ensure fair and transparent distribution of benefits to all deserving recipients.
