Delhi Police arrested two men accused of assaulting a serving Army brigadier and his son in Vasant Vihar after an objection to public drinking.
The arrests followed the accused’s surrender three days after the incident.
Satender Siwach, 49, and Sanjay Sharma, 56, both residents of Mehram Nagar, surrendered on Tuesday. Siwach heads Choudhary Aviation Pvt Ltd, while Sharma runs a local dhaba. Police seized the Mercedes SUV used during the assault and began examining its role in the case.
The brigadier’s family alleged that police officers present during the attack failed to intervene. They claimed that officers interacted with the accused and delayed filing the FIR despite receiving vehicle details. An internal inquiry found lapses by the investigating inspector, who was reassigned to district lines.
The confrontation began when the brigadier and his son asked two men in a parked Mercedes not to drink in public. Soon after, two more cars arrived with seven to eight men who allegedly assaulted the son, attacked the brigadier, and abused his wife. Witnesses said the violence continued even as police stood nearby.
Investigators are verifying whether others were involved, given the quick arrival of reinforcements. The accused claimed they had parked randomly to drink, but police are scrutinising the sequence of events. The seized vehicle is being examined for evidence.
The case has raised questions about police response and accountability in high-profile assault incidents.
