Banking operations in Odisha are expected to face significant disruptions as the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) has declared a two-day nationwide strike on March 24 and 25, 2025.

The UFBU, a coalition of nine bank unions, is pressing for a nine-point charter of demands, which includes enhanced recruitment processes, regularization of ad-hoc employees, and the implementation of a five-day work week in the banking sector. The decision to go on strike follows unsuccessful negotiations with the Indian Banks’ Association (IBA).

Arun Kumar Bisoyi, the Odisha chapter convener of the UFBU, revealed that approximately 37,000 bank employees from 6,000 branches of nationalized banks across the state are set to participate in the protest. The strike coincides with bank holidays on March 22 and 23, likely leading to a prolonged disruption in banking services for four consecutive days.

The strike is poised to create challenges for customers, emphasizing the critical nature of the ongoing discussions between banking unions and authorities.

Stay tuned for further developments on this unfolding story.
