In a tragic incident early Friday morning, a passenger bus named “Khambeshwari” overturned in the Kalinga Ghati area, located on the border of Ganjam and Kandhamal districts in Odisha.
The accident occurred as the bus, carrying 17 passengers, was navigating a sharp curve along the treacherous Ghati Road, resulting in more than 10 passengers sustaining injuries.
The bus had departed from Raipur late Thursday night, heading towards Brahmapur. According to initial reports, the driver lost control at a bend in Kalinga Ghati, causing the vehicle to topple onto the road. Three of the injured passengers were reported to be in critical condition and were rushed to Bhanjanagar Hospital via ambulance. One of them was later shifted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Brahmapur for advanced treatment. The remaining injured passengers sustained minor injuries and did not seek medical attention at the hospital.
Local residents from the nearby Durgaprasad village, along with uninjured passengers, acted swiftly to rescue those trapped inside the overturned bus and ensured the critically injured were transported for treatment. Following the incident, police teams from Bhanjanagar and G. Udayagiri arrived at the scene and initiated an investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident.
