BJB College hostel turned into a battlefield late Tuesday night after two student groups clashed during a farewell party.
More than 25 students sustained injuries in the violence, which saw stone pelting and bottle throwing inside the Ashok-Ambedkar hostel premises.
The clash reportedly began over stopping music at the farewell party. What started as a minor argument escalated into a full-blown fight lasting nearly ninety minutes. Injured students were rushed to Capital Hospital for treatment.
Police set up a temporary camp inside the hostel campus to maintain order. Three platoons of force, additional DCPs, ACPs, and PCR vans were deployed overnight to control the situation. Bhubaneswar police urged students to maintain academic discipline while investigations continue.
College authorities have formed a committee to probe the incident. Acting Principal Dr Laxmidhar Bhol said the committee will submit its report within 24 hours. He assured that strict legal and disciplinary action will be taken against students found guilty. “This is an unfortunate and sensitive incident. Whoever is involved will face strong action,” he said.
The Tehsildar confirmed that CCTV footage will be handed over to the police if required. For now, the situation remains under control, and classes are continuing as usual.
