A shocking incident unfolded in Bhubaneswar last evening when three miscreants attacked a sweets vendor with a sword, leaving him critically injured.
The assault occurred near Samantarapur Square around 9 pm.
The victim has been identified as 52-year-old Dilip Kumar Behera. Reports said the attack followed a quarrel earlier in the evening. At around 7 pm, a youth visited Behera’s shop to buy sweets. Behera, busy preparing items, asked the customer to wait. The request triggered a heated argument, and the youth left after the altercation.
Two hours later, three men arrived on a motorcycle near the shop. They allegedly abused Behera and attacked him with a sword before fleeing. Behera sustained a deep injury on his left hand.
The incident created panic in the locality. Nearby shopkeepers quickly closed their establishments, fearing further violence. Tension gripped the area until police reached the spot and restored order.
Locals rushed Behera to Capital Hospital. Doctors later shifted him to a private hospital, where he is undergoing treatment.
Police launched an investigation and began efforts to trace the accused. Authorities assured that strict action will follow once the culprits are identified.
