The Cuttack Third Additional District Judge Court convicted Lipan Sahu in the sensational actress Nikita murder case and sentenced him to life imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 20,000.
Nikita, also known as Lakshmipriya Behera, died on January 4, 2019, after falling from the terrace of an apartment at Mahanadi Vihar in Cuttack. Her family alleged that Lipan pushed her from the terrace, leading to her death. They also accused him of subjecting her to dowry‑related harassment.
The court found Lipan guilty of murdering his wife and delivered a strong verdict. However, his parents, who faced charges under the domestic violence case, were acquitted.
Nikita was a well‑known Odia actress who starred in films such as Mit Basichi Mu Bhuta Saathi Re, Chori Chori, Mathare Dei Pat Odhani, and Gunda. She also gained popularity through television serials like ACP Nikita and Tapasya, which earned her recognition in households across Odisha.
