Security forces killed two Maoists during an encounter in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district on Thursday morning.
The gunfight erupted in a forested area near the Indravati River when a joint team of security personnel launched an anti-Naxalite operation. The exchange of fire continued for several hours before subsiding. Police confirmed that the team recovered the bodies of two uniformed Maoists from the site.
Weapons Seized
Security forces seized a self-loading rifle (SLR), an INSAS rifle, and a 12-bore firearm from the encounter location. Officials said the operation marked another success in ongoing counter-insurgency efforts in the Bastar region.
Recent Operations and Data
Earlier, on January 3, security forces neutralised 14 Maoists in two separate encounters in Bastar. Police data shows that 285 Maoists were killed in encounters across Chhattisgarh last year.
National Strategy
The Centre has set March 31 as the deadline to eliminate Left-Wing Extremism from the country. Security forces continue to intensify operations in affected regions, with Bijapur remaining a key focus area.
